Hunker down for The Bunker burger
A while back, a reader suggested I sample the burgers at The Bunker, located on Walking Street slightly north of Soi 16. I finally got around to doing so and was glad I did. The long bistro stretches all the way to the sea and offers attractive indoor seating and an outdoor deck for beautiful water views. The Bunker is a great place to have a bite before or after a night of debauchery.
The menu contains a vast selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, roast beef, lamb, chicken, Thai food and, of course, burgers. I started off with a bottle of Beer Chang for 55 baht; my friend had a Spy Wine cooler for 10 baht more. The basic ‘Bunker Burger,’ a thick, juicy beef burger topped with grilled onions, lettuce and tomato on a big, sesame seed bun, is 195 baht. I ordered the corporal burger, which also contained two slices of cheese and bacon. It’s so big and thick that if you try to eat it with your hands, sandwich style, it may very well end up in your lap. I opted to use a fork and knife. The burgers are accompanied by crispy French fries and a small, but very tasty, side of coleslaw. They also have sergeant, captain and general burgers; you get the idea.
My friend enjoyed his Cottage pie at 165 baht. It had just the right mixture of vegetables and chopped beef, topped by a nice portion of mashed potatoes, gravy and baked to perfection. It’s accompanied by garlic bread. Although it looked quite tasty, I’m definitely glad I chose the burger. This is certainly the place to get satisfying, comfort food and to enjoy all kinds of beers, wines and cocktails. They have an all you can eat roast buffet on Sunday.
The Bunker opens at 12:30 pm and closes at 11 pm on Sunday to Tuesday and at midnight on Wednesday to Saturday. (Phone: 088-193 3307)
