Dog kills large snake on Jomtien Beach
I was having an early morning stroll along Jomtien Beach a couple of days ago, when I heard the sounds of a comedy dog fight coming from nearby bushes - growling, barking, fighting, lots of leaves being violently shaken in the melee, but I couldn't see the combatants.
It sounded like two dogs were having a scrap over a particularly juicy bone, so it came as something of a surprise when a black dog emerged, violently shaking and biting a big snake which it carried in its mouth.
It proudly trotted past me and went onto the beach to devour it.
I followed to at least see if I could identify the type of snake (I thought it looked like a cobra), but the dog suddenly saw me as a competitor for this tasty treat, and kept growling and running off with it, so I was unable to find out for sure.
One thing is for certain. I have never seen a snake the size of this one near a beach in Pattaya before, and especially not on a heavily populated tourist beach.
I expect them to live in the fields, but as Pattaya and Jomtien continue to be developed, and their natural habitat is cleared, it should come as no surprise to find its not only the Russians who inhabit the beach these days.

Stuart
Maybe a sea snake? Or one that keeps the rats in the rocks down?
Doug
Lesser-spotted one eyed Russian trouser snake.

I often see these sea snakes or eels, dead on the beach, which most
likely were caught in fishing nets and thrown back, I have also seen
dogs playing with them, running around, I doubt that he ate it and doubt
very much if it was a Cobra.
